TRIBES: A Dance in Light and Shadow is an evening-length choreographic work by Rebecca Levy, artistic director of Jacksonville Dance Theatre, inspired by Marc Chagall's stained-glass windows of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The piece fuses contemporary dance with visual storytelling and historical narrative to explore themes of artistic resilience, antisemitism, exile, and identity through Chagall's luminous work and personal history. The performance creates space for dialogue around remembrance and the enduring importance of artistic freedom.
