For touring stand-up: The Comedy Zone
The Comedy Zone books touring headliners at 3130 Hartley Road, in the lobby of the Ramada hotel, with a full bar and food menu. It is strictly 21 and over, and every guest needs a valid ID. Each guest buys at least one item inside, and outside food and drink are not allowed. Doors open an hour before showtime and seats within your ticket's section are first come, first served, so arriving early gets you closer. Phones stay away during the show, and heckling gets you removed without a refund. The hotel lot is large and free; call ahead if you need a wheelchair-accessible table.Source: Comedy Zone FAQ and house rules.
For something unscripted: First Coast Comedy
First Coast Comedy is an improv theater at 2292 Mayport Road, where a rotating cast builds scenes and games from audience suggestions. Its main show runs on Friday and Saturday nights, and a separate late show is for adults 21 and over, so check which one you are buying. The bar serves beer, wine and house cocktails. If you want to try it yourself, the club runs a Saturday afternoon open mic and improv classes for adults, with occasional classes for middle and high school students.Source: First Coast Comedy and its FAQ.
For a big-name comic: Florida Theatre
The Florida Theatre at 128 East Forsyth Street books touring comedians a few times a season; its events calendar has a comedy filter. Expect bag checks and metal detectors at the door. Backpacks, large bags and outside food and drink are not allowed, and anyone 2 or older needs a ticket. Doors usually open an hour before the show. The theater has no lot of its own; it suggests the Yates Building garage on East Adams Street, and street parking is free after 6 p.m. and on weekends. Wheelchair spaces are on the orchestra level only, since there is no elevator.Source: Florida Theatre FAQ and parking information.
Before you buy
Comedy tickets are usually final sale, and age limits are enforced at the door, so check both on the venue's page before you buy. Our comedy listings show the age limit when the venue publishes one and link to the official ticket page for every show.
