Pianist Scott Watkins performs an all-American piano recital featuring Edward MacDowell's sweeping Sonata "Tragica" and Howard Hanson's long-overlooked Sonata in A minor, culminating in the world premiere of a new Piano Sonata by Jacksonville composer Benjamin Shorstein. The program traces the architectural foundations of American piano literature from the 19th century to a newly emerging voice, with Watkins having made the world premiere recording of Hanson's sonata after the discovery of its manuscript in 2007.
